a journey of life's pleasures…
507 Beaufort Street, Highgate
After driving past the site daily watching it morph into Mary Street Bakery, needless to say, I was quite excited to give this a go. We decided to pop in for morning tea on the first weekend and so did most of Perth from the looks of it.
You can see what they are trying to achieve with this place with the funky decor and quirky staff. There was a nice selection of baked, however it was hard to see what was on offer as you had to line up at the counter to see anything and being so busy it was near impossible.
We settled on a long black, latte, escargot and almond croissant to which the coffees arrived and we had to ask for our goodies as they were forgotten. When they finally arrived they looked nice and didn’t disappoint on taste. The coffees were above average and would be happy to come back for another cup.
Whilst we were having our treats we were engrossed in watching the chaos that was the service of the staff . It was clear they didn’t really have a process for customers in greeting them when they arrived or seating them. As a result, there was a massive crowd of people milling around not knowing what to do and staff not knowing who came first.
Given it was their first week, happy to come back to give them another go as there is potential.
Note: went back the second week to purchase some bread and coffees and the fiance was asked for his order four times whilst standing at the counter waiting. Maybe we should come back in another month!
Price Guide: approx $10 for baked treat and coffee
